BillyBob's Restoration Planning

UPDATES:

WHAT'S NEW is a chronological listing of updates to the BillyBob site.

RESEARCH:

TRUCK LINKS including vendor sites for old parts, custom parts, and tools as well as sites for classic car and truck organizations

STORE Operating in association with Amazon.com, books, recordings and tools can be purchased.

PLANNING for the restoration including project schedule and cost estimates.

HISTORY:

TRAVELS WITH BILLYBOB With apologies to Steinbeck, this area of BillyBob's Garage will be used to log the trips BillyBob and I make together.

WORK-IN-PROGRESS was the restoration of parts of BillyBob that I could accomplish without a garage up until the summer of 2010 when I finally got enough warehouse space to work in. Now, it also includes the continuing work on BillyBob in the shop.

PRE-RESTORATION includes log entries of minor repairs and and adventures between time of purchase and the time when I started restoration, a piece at a time.

JR'S KORNER JR's Korner is the history of BillyBob before I got him authored by my brother, Wm. C. Kephart.

MAINTENANCE:

BILLYBOB MAINTENANCE Ever changing detailing, oil change, lube, etc. maintenance routines specifically developed for BillyBob, including required tools, materials and procedures.

PARTS SHOP The Parts Shop is a repository of How-To articles. Things that I have done over and over enough times to have developed a procedure. This gives me a checklist and saves brain cells.

STEALTH SHOP Urban residence design with large integrated shop and separate living quarters for a relative or renter.

Based upon my initial research, I decided some PLANNING of the restoration project would be prudent to maintain forward momentum. This includes a "project schedule" and "cost estimate". Both these documents will continue to be revised as they come into contact with reality time and again.

In November of 2008, I started using a car mainenance 'puter program called CarCare. With four vehicles to ride herd over, spreadsheet entries were getting to be a hinderance. Keyboard entry into both applications was tedious so spreadsheet entry was terminated and I started playing around with the reports generated via the CarCare program.

In early 2009, Federal mismanagement of the economy caused our segment of that economy to crater. Our company was reduced to a shell of its former self and those lucky few of us who kept our jobs took drastic cuts in our paychecks. Mine was deep enough to cause negative cash flow. I've been going deeper in debt ever since. As I write this update in 2015, cash flow is ever so slightly positive again.  New work on BillyBob is pending as a result.

In 2015, started obtaining parts and mocking up BillyBob's transformation from a stock truck to a slightly custom hot rod shop truck. CarCare reports have been updated thru 2015 and a new report, Accessory Purchases, has been added to cover the new hot rod parts.

Until July 2001, all cost detail was included in the table below. This became a bear to maintain. Everything was entered in the spreadsheet, then re-entered in this page by hand. From July 2001 thru November 2008, only category subtotals and overall totals are displayed on this page. The detail was still available (in a more readable form) as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file (an Internet standard) by clicking the "BILLYBOB RESTORATION COST ESTIMATE" title link in the table below. If your browser is not equipped to view PDF files, the free reader plug-in program can be downloaded here.
